38th Design Automation Conference Draws Approximately 14,700 Attendees

Business/High Tech Editors

BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2001--The 38th Design Automation Conference (DAC) today announced that approximately 14,700 designers, engineers, managers, analysts, members of academia and exhibitors attended the technical conference held in Las Vegas this week.

The conference focused on the business and technology aspects of electronic products design, including electronic design automation (EDA) software and methodologies for integrated circuits (ICs) and embedded systems.

"This year's conference attendance is in line with our expectations, and we are pleased, given the current economic situation," said Jan Rabaey, 38th DAC general chair and professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of California, Berkeley. "The technical sessions, keynotes, panels and workshops were strongly attended, some having standing room only. While some exhibitors experienced somewhat lower booth traffic, many reported solid attendance at the demo suites. As a result, 208 exhibitors have already signed up for next year's conference."

"EDA is where electronics begins, and electronic products companies recognize the importance of staying ahead of the innovation curve, which requires sustained investment in R&D," said Pamela Parrish, executive director, EDA Consortium. "Although overall attendee turnout was down slightly compared to last year's record attendance, we saw serious buyers and critical decision makers at the show. They understand that their next-generation products depend on continued investment in EDA to solve their critical design challenges."

Beginning June 25, many of the DAC program audio and visual presentations, including keynotes by Henry Samueli, co-chairman and chief technology officer of Broadcom, and Willem Roelandts, president and chief executive officer, Xilinx, will be available at www.dac.com. This will give design engineers access to DAC information, online, year-round. Next year's DAC will be held June 10-14, 2002, at the New Orleans Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
